"Evangelising at the belvedere of the Scottish electronic scene, we find Christ.: an errant punctuator and erstwhile Board of Canada whose blessed crusade through shattered, melodic vines has rendered him one of electronica’s most devout – and devoured – redeemers. Signed to Edinburgh’s exemplary Benbecula imprint, Christ. delivered his debut album, Metamorphic Reproduction Miracle, in 2002 – and quickly enlivened adulation thanks to his lexicon of rhythmic whorls and analogue arias. He has since admonished a recent, classic, EP, Seeing and Doing, (a full-length is also forthcoming): its vibrant, aquatic incantations and broken, beatific, eulogies further evince his standing as song-smith and producer of eminence; and this – teamed with superior live shows – suggests myriad apostles will yet flock to Christ."

AMPERSAND / THE JANUS ETHIC / STANDBY

Ampersand ...”are five normal guys from Glasgow’s east end, we have a love of all things Music and have a hate for all things trendy and bad!!! There are too many influences in this band to try and mention so main ones will have to do: Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Nirvana, Beatles, Metallica, Pink Floyd, Pearl Jam, Rush, and every good tune that we have ever laid ears on!!!
“Roaring into life the band opened with ‘Taking Over,’ creating a wall of sound that filled the room to bursting point. A good rock song with strong vocals and great 3 part harmonies from the lead vocalist, drummer and bassist it was a sign of things to come.” Livemusic.co.uk

Dicelines: SEMPER FIRE (pictured) / GREEN DOOR CLINIC (pictured) / THE WHISKY WORKS / SAN SEBASTIAN (pictured)
Formed in the Summer of 2005, Semper Fire quickly graced the stage of the local summer festivals with a mission to develop a fanbase and bring there music to the hearts of the nation. Constant touring and total dedication to the band is the reason they are moving so quickly. Armed with a van, a rehersal room and no other commitments, Semper Fire will be on your chosen media player soon, and there they'll remain. Main influences are that of a soulful rock scene, think Live, Dave Matthews Band, U2, Maroon 5 to name just a few - this allows the band to be at home on any stage. / The Whisky Works came together in Glasgow during April 2005, and began rehearsing whenever physically possible to craft the most promising amalgamation of our musical interests and abilities. The result was a raucous blend of guitar-driven noise and post-hardcore punk, with just a few moments of clarity to bring us all back to some form of audible reality. The Whisky Work's self-titled debut EP, due for release during winter 2005/2006, and over the following months this has resulted in a frequently increasing number of live dates and positive comments from supporters and passers-by alike, showing that maybe there is a little light at the end of the tunnel! Gold Soundz Presents: AFTER CHRISTMAS / CONSCIOUS PILOT (pictured) / CORIOLIS / TALL SHIPS
Several bands in the west of Scotland accept that indie rock attained perfection in about 1996, and
if you agree that a template incorporating the prog-indie of Pavement and the electro-rural beard and melancholic whimsy of Grandaddy would be a good starting point, then look no further for satisfaction. Coriolis send back large format postcards from suburbs abutting spectacular natural landscapes, and they're busy, busy, busy throwing out new vignettes all the time - the snippets their website provides punch all the right buttons on the jukebox in my head. To contradict one of After Christmas' own lyrics, tonight smiling IS allowed. Alan from Coriolis puts down his guitar and picks up a bass to provide rhythms for another band - polymaths! Tchoh... - and the result is at the kind of acute tangent from Coriolis you might expect - from the same solar system, but with a different orbit. Conscious Pilot [Scotland] have a very interesting line in caffeine drums, mongrel guitar couplings and disaffected vocals that is highly diggable, sort of giving Big Country a case of Stella and getting them to cover Box Elder. Sorry to keep mentioning Pavement, so by way of a change, Tall Ships reference Mogwai about five thousand times in the first three words on their myspace slot... but they're not that Mogwai-ey at alL, really. Same shipping forecast, different Utsira. Land-locked, work-bored but aspirant, watching the rolling horizon hopefully... I love the naval gazing qualities, and if you want something that's on slightly more of a rolling deep tip than a skateboard abandoned on an overgrowing summer lawn tip then - gentle guitar band loving reader - I think you'll find we have something for you too. 8.30PM - £3/4

Joy Promotions: THE PEDESTRIANS (pictured) / STRINGMEN (pictured)
Stringmen have already been likened to Nirvana, The Pixies and Joy Division in the rapturous response they've already received from local press. They make a quite glorious racket and have a clutch of songs to die for which really shine in the live arena, where the band are quite incendiary. Catch them before they go supernova. The Crack. The emergence of some stunning heavy rock bands is making Sunderland an exciting place to be yet again, and there's not a skinny tie or ironic haircut in sight. As one of the bands at the forefront of this movement, Stringmen have slowly built a reputation as one of the regions more cohesive rock units. They're heavily influenced by the jobs they spent time doing during their teenage years (including sorting rubbish, dogshit and junkies needles for Sunderland Council and picking up roadkill) as well as by bands such as the Pixies, The Who, and Bad News. On stage they come across like a demented Nirvana brought up by a Captain Beefheart with a better sense of humour. They also wear their WW2 fixation (literally) on their brow, in the form of the finest Japanese military suicide headbands. Be afraid! Pilot Magazine

Lazygroove Promotions: HIS GIRL FRIDAY / TURNING 13 / EXIT PILOT / CODEEN
Based in Glasgow, four piece, His Girl Friday have been making their name in Glasgow's underground scene for the past two years. Releasing their debut E.P, Thwart My Little Fingered Fate just over a year ago with Biffy Clyro engineer, D.P Johnson. Taking inspiration from My Bloody Valentine, Sonic Youth and Sigur Ros with core elements of Smashing Pumpkins and My Vitriol, His Girl Friday are not typical of the traditional Glasgow indie scene but not misplaced and seem to have a crossover appeal. Their EP has been a quiet success within groups of local music fans and has helped the band gain interest in their live shows. 2004 saw them invited to play a T- Break showcase gig at Edinburgh's Liquid Rooms. This also led to their first airplay on Radio 1. Also in 2004 interest in the debut E.P lead to airplay on Radio Scotland after being discovered by Radio Scotland DJ Vic Galloway. The second half of was relatively quiet after the departure of previous drummer Barry Thomas in June 2004. However October of that year saw the arrival of new drummer, Guru. The band has had a busy year after Guru's arrival. The next few months saw His Girl Friday embark on the live circuit performing at top notch music hubs from the likes of Stereo to King Tuts and Nice 'n Sleazy's. His Girl Friday's constant quest at making good music paved way for Kat McCarron. Kat's inclusion in the band has added an extra dimension in the band's music. Again with some productive rehearsals the last few months, His Girl Friday are set to get on stage again. //// In the summer of 2000 three friends with a passion for bands such as Far and Fugazi began searching for a melodic but heavy sound. Gaining confidence from early rehearsals, Turning 13 came to be with some of the most highly charged rock music to surface from Aberdeen, Scotland in a long time. Once a collection of songs were written the trio played some high profile gigs with the likes of Biffy Clyro and Hell Is For Heroes amongst others. The band have also twice played the T-Break, T in the Park Unsigned band heats to great acclaim and received airplay on BBC Radio Scotland.

In 2004 joined by John (Fuzzy) Boyle on rhythm guitar, John (Jarfy) Scott on bass and later by Scott Russell on lead guitar they have quickly gained a loyal following in the Glasgow area. CO-EXIST (pictured) / STAND UP GUY (Belfast) / BLACK SUN / ZILLAH (pictured)
Heh heh heh! When listings time comes round, and I see a roster of dirty metal bands to write about, my first reaction is always a throaty chuckle. There's just a certain je ne sais quoi oh so very special about proper, what is that fucking racket? styled tampering with guitars, bass and drums, especially if it comes with vocals that sound like they're not doing the singer's larynx any favours at all. 'You have blood gushing from your throat? KEEP SINGING, SOFT LAD!' we banter. Seriously, though... tonight it's splendid voicebox & amp shred noisery. You have the twenty Death cigs and dehydration croak of Black Sun, who quern out migraine thunder drummage and funereal chords the size and weight of granite headstones for gargantuan beasts in the HP Lovecraft mode. Co-Exist have been called Scotland's 'finest grind caked metal band' (Terrorizer magazine). I prefer their own description, 'a tank on speed', although it would have to be a tank that had literally no other interests at all in life except for necking meth and going about blowing shit up. That grinding sound you hear is its teeth as it asks you to spare twenty pence or GET A SHELL THROUGH YE. There's Zillah, who play killah blasts of absolutely no messing juddering distorto-crunch vein-busting roooooaaaaaaaah noise - hey, stick a 17 second song sample on your site and you get a 17 word write-up - and last band stood in this blurb is Stand Up Guy, who have come over from Belfast with sonic recipes involving sludge, bulldozers and an occasional wild-eyed lunge towards our young. SANTA DOG (pictured) / ATTIC LIGHTS / LITTLE KICKS
A hickory wind gusts through the Notecave this evening. There's always a place in my cheatin' heart for a well-turned wistful song. Chasing my past with some well-aged whisky while I think of where it all went wrong. I lean on the bar and gaze down the neck of my fifth or sixth bottle of beer, and with the cuff of my shirt I wipe my mouth, then I wipe away a tear. "I cried all day and all night too," Attic Lights elaborate. The lachrymose sound of pedal steel guitar, four part harmonies and stumbling drums has this effect on people. Yet there is always a deep down hope of redemption, that tomorrow may bring the green grass. Whizzing by the plaid dreamers on the porch, a car zooms past with four kids on their way to a party involving chemicals. I'm going to say The Cardigans here, just pop it on the table and not make a big song and dance about it - Santa Dog have songs which propel you about trying to catch the trailing ribbons of the kite one of you's flying on the lochside. This is the kind of music you want to soundtrack a speedy drive out into the country to attend that party, with Attic Lights on the other side of the tape for the inevitable female in borrowed jacket dozing in the back seat return the morning after. Mmmmmm.

MISTAKES IN ANIMATION (pictured) / TEMPERCALM / FRANK TURNER (pictured)
Hey, these two played here in January and they got a gig of the month then as well! TAKE A HINT, these are good, and we think you'd dig it. Mistakes in Animation... A wonky grin on a cartoon rabbit, lop-sidedly chewing a carrot as it pushes its anthropomorph hat back on its head and shrugs, 'Hey, why d'you think they called me Dylan, man?' Mister MIA is young and inspired, and this is an
energising combination. Hopping the trains and playing wherever he can lay his hat for a moment, tonight he fetches back up in Glasgow to play a combination of 21st century troubadour acoustic whimsy and some more filled in ideas stemming from work as a burgeoning two-piece verson of
MIA. It's great, and if you can find me a better lyric than 'A week which should have been the happiest of my life quickly became an exercise in denial' then I shall be glad to quote that for you too. Also reappearing is Frank Turner, ex-Million Dead front chap throwing out funny/wry lyrics on
romantic fatigue and other affairs of the heart, a born-again Billy Bragg/Woody Guthrie - although his myspace (may their servers be fed amphetamines) photo looks a lot like Fish Cheerleader 'Country' Joe McDonald. Gimme an F! Tempercalm may soothe your savage breast, more than
likely they'll provide a counterpoint to all this strumming unpluggedidity. I had 'I need a co-pilot' as an alarm clock song this morning, and it's quite the thing to get you up & running, proper first song 'jings, this band's going to wear me out!' time. Pick up your picks and get on with it...

BLACK HISTORY MONTH / + GUESTS
“Black History Month are a four-piece Glasgow based funk band. Playing music aimed at the dancefloor, the band take in old school hip-hop, Latin, blues, jazz and classic soul.
The band’s major influences include 60s and 70s funk – Herbie Hancock, Sly & the Family Stone and especially funk from New Orleans; the new breed of funk players – Breakestra and the New Mastersounds; the very best in hip-hop - the Roots, Public Enemy and the Pharcyde; and blues players such as Buddy Guy, Freddie and Albert King. Black History Month have existed in their current state since January 2005, when Ronnie Martin joined on drums. The rest of the band: Rory Crawford on vocals and guitar, Boaby Osborne on bass and John Steel on guitar, had been together since October 2004, though John and Rory had attempted to get the band going in a number of various other guises throughout that year.
Through intensive practice and a large number of gigs, the sound was tightened up and honed down, and the learning curve continues. The main emphasis is placed on creating an energetic and tight live show to get audiences smiling, and enjoying playing music that they really love.”

SWELLBELLIES / ASSERT / CONSTANT FEAR
“The Swellbellys started life in the autumn of 97 with one aim which was to play hard as fuck punk rock anywhere and everywhere! The band went through a few line up changes in the first two years with Paul the original frontman going home to the USA and bass guitarist Meanie quitting the band due to problems of his own making. Oh yeah and the original drummer Fairy was sacked in 98 because he couldn’t play fast enough. Needs who was on guitar and vocals threw his guitar in the bin and recruited Daz to do the job for him. At this time Big Dave joined on bass and Steve on drums. 1999 saw more changes after recording their first demo, Steve left due to alcohol problems and was replaced by Bruce Awkward from Combat Clergy on drums and the 1st single was recorded and released in 2001 on Intimidation Recs. The band also recorded at this time their debut lp SHUT UP AND LISTEN on punk in Scotland records. Big Dave left due to family commitments and was replaced by Pedro on bass and after a couple of split 7”eps were in the studio to do their second lp “TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS” the sound now was harder faster and more in your face than ever before. Comparisons were now starting to be made between the Swellbellys and the Exploited, fueled by the fact both frontmen are called Wattie both come from Edinburgh, with their Scottish accents coming through in their vocal delivery. Ah well as with everything in life shit happens and after two European tours Pedro left saying he had more important things to do. Mikey ex bass player with the Exploited was recruited but after a few rehearsal’s and before the next lot of gigs in France and Switzerland where to begin left to pursue other interests. A young Rich Wreck who fronted a band called WRECK threw his lot in with the Swellbellys and with four weeks to go till the tour started, learnt 22 songs and joined the band. After a few months the band were back in the studio and recorded trax for three separate 7” singles for release this year. The band are just back from touring in France, Spain, Switzerland, Germany, Holland and Belgium. And have just booked a short UK tour in March 2005 to coincide with the release of the third album called 'Bullets And Blades'. At the beginning of Dec 2004 Bruce left the band to pursue other interests and the band wish him the best of luck in his new career. 2005 sees the bellys back firing on 4 cylinders with the recruitment of pumpy ( ex uk subs and vice squad) taking over the vacant drum stool.”

Martine has a heavy cold and shouldn't really be here, but trooper that she is, leads the band (David on bass, keyboards and anything he can get his hands on) through a set of up-tempo electro pop with rather Cocteau-esque vocals.
