ELECTRIC BRAE / THE FAST CAMELS (pictured)
Electric Brae: the first gig for this Glasgow outfit, featuring ex members of Bangtwister, The Owsley Sunshine, and Dead Fly Buchowski. Eclectic mix of rock, folk, and lyrical psychedelia. / The Fast Camels: Glasgow four piece The Fast Camels have a sound that is strongly influenced by the point in time when Freakbeat was morphing into full-fledged psychedelia; an intriguing mix of Barrett-era Pink Floyd, The Pretty Things psych-pop period, lots of Rubbles bands and small dollops of Forever Changes period Love. "Collector" types will probably delight in spotting the influences; "The rhythm guitar on track 14 sounds like the second Tomorrow single", etc. This would be to miss the point that the band are writing good original songs in a style that hardly anyone else is playing in. As far as I can recall the last UK band to successfully play in this style was The Chemistry Set. Recorded live with vintage equipment, the sound is highly assured for a debut. The harmonies and catchy hooks of 'The Magic Optician' sound authentic without being a pastiche. The Camels present an eclectic mix, including the short, sweet pop of 'Two Day Week', the Arthur Lee influenced 'Privately Insane', and the driving, memorable 'Big Daddy Smythe'. / Mike Hasting: member of the pendulums, mike does melodic folk with a psychadelic tinge - one of glasgows finest guitar players!

A-LIX / BAYAN ***RECOMMENDED***
A-lix: "We are an energetic Electro-Rock-Punk duo, we are composed of Water, Blood, a French guy and an Argentinian girl. Formed in Barcelona in 2006 (we used to play solo both of us before joining forces). The French guy composed Electronic songs on drum machines, played guitar and sang with a rage on it then played them to other people anywhere, everywhere. The Argentinian girl said, this is crazy enough for me to join in! We are based in Glasgow where we do what we know best : raw energy on stage! We have toured in France, Spain, Germany, Austria, Poland and Argentina and UK and will perform songs from our debut album "Never Grow"." / Bayan: originally founded in Italy, merged contrasting Garage-Rock and Bossa-Nova influences, to produce a gritty rock   sound arranged in subtly intricate structures and rythyms. In late 2005 Bayan had three songs included in three different compilations distributed in Italy courtesy of Audioglobe. This led to them being signed by an Italian independent label(www.videoradio.org) after which they recorded their first official LP. In 2006 the group founder (Niccolo' Giulianelli) and bass player (Iacopo Simonelli) moved to Glasgow, attracted by the thriving music scene, to further promote their album. Since then the have played many gigs in Scotland and this gig is probably going to be the last one as Bayan.

HYENA / BEAR CLAW / EX-WIVES (pictured)
Hyena are a punk rock band from Glasgow, Scotland. Mmmmmm......Rapeman, Scratch Acid, Bardo Pond, All Tomorrows Parties, Kill Rock Stars, Touch and Go, Fugazi, Sonic Youth, Black Flag, Bikini Kill, someyoungpedro, Strawberry Bon Bons, the Butthole Surfers, Deerhoof, Xiu Xiu, Hella, Tapes, Vinyl, LIGHTS, SOUND and ACTION!!!!! Neon scratchings of the sardonic kind. / Bear Claw is a three piece rock band from Chicago consisting of two basses, drums and vocals. Many people might say, "two basses, that can't be heavy", well i beg to differ. You'll just have to check us out for yourself. / Ex-Wives – (review translated from french) The lightning comes from Glasgow and all is transformed. Ex wives is a trio marked with red iron by Rapeman, Jesus Lizard who are with their second 45. The first was promising, the demonstration of the second whom one could listen to since more than one year forecast more beautiful future. The Foreign Office label made it possible this disc to be born. It will never be thanked enough for it. The Scots succeeded in giving life to two unforgettable flashpoints. If the ardour of the first individual ones of Unsane or Shellac point out beautiful memories to you, leave them behind you and benefit fully from this recording. The past is forgotten and the incandescent present. All is there, rage teenager, writing under high voltage and melodies imparables. The desire for crossing the wall and all to balance irrigates these a few minutes of musical frenzy. Hardly 3 minutes to satisfy itself with the ultimate source. Frustrating and entêtant. We are in June 2007 and Ex Wives dazzled of all its class.

Splendid Dead: BAD BAD MEN / THE 18 WHEELS (pictured)
Bad Bad Men: apparently sound like "Zombie pirates fighting vampire cowboys, or jumping up & down on Phil Collins' kidneys. Or maybe Clint Eastwood's rugged man-stubble." actually...that's quite accurate! / 18 Wheels: Imagine a world Where Grunge happened in New Orleans instead of Seattle. A world where Dolly Parton is President for Life. Where Bono shot himself at 27 and Kurt Cobain flogs ipods. Where Marilyn Manson is a pentecostal Preacher and Morrisey was aborted as a fetus. In that world The 18 Wheels are played on every radio station and No home is complete without one of their albums. In this one they are merely magnificent.

SEREGON (pictured) / ATTICA RAGE / CIRCLE OF TYRANTS / AMOK (pictured)
Seregon perform a mixture of thrash, death and progressive metal. Forming in late 2004, Seregon spent several months writing before exploding onto the live scene with a series of hugely successful showcases around Bristol. Lyrically and thematically Seregon stay firmly within existential themes, taking influence from the world around us, it's problems and successes, as we interpret them. A 'preapocalyptic' theme runs throughout the material, warning of a dire future for a dead generation. / Attica Rage: "a perfectly blended mesh of bad-ass riffs and pure metal revelry"KERRANG! (rated KKK) "One of the best epic metal bands in the UK at the moment" BritishMetal.co.uk / Circle Of Tyrants started out in Feb 06 and has ex members of Evidence Of Trauma in the form of Chris and Big Al. The Metal we play is Thrash Metal with Battle and War Metal Lyrics. Having played gigs around Glasgow we are now aiming to play venues in England and North of Scotland check gigs for your area we could be there one day. Our goal is to smash , pound and grind all local venues near YOU! / Amok are the self-proclaimed 'Premuim Brand' of Scottish Thrash Metal, and 'premuim brand' couldn't be a better description! Its an old skool 30 minutes of the type of riffs to make the Bay Area proud and the energetic and charismatic performance of their vocalist Macho, make them the 'must see' band to check out on the local Glasgow scene soon!

"Thingimalism"
Ensemble Thing is a band of escaped music-college students and teachers, who play a mixture of composed and improvised music.  For this gig they'll be playing Terry Riley's seminal In C (credited by many as the first minimalist piece, its hypnotic repetitions an inspiration to Glass, Reich et al.), along with some passages from their own collaboratively-written Dante's Inferno, and some surprises.  Their own composing styles give nods to European post-minimalism (Thing's de facto leader John De Simone was a pupil of the great Louis Andriessen), metal, 60s soundtrack music, plainchant, Eastern European folk, and free jazz, while not sounding too much like any of these. Plus special noisy guest.  "Impressive" - Michael Tumelty, The Herald.

Equal an Opposite: WOODENBOX / A FIST FULL OF FIVERS / THE ORAN SOCIAL / RICHARD MAILEY / CONOR MASON
Woodenbox: Ali Downer on vocals and guitar, Sam Evans on sax and the Nick Dudman on drums. Interestingly, the notes for this review included the words mellow and kickass. Actually quite accurate on reflection, this band does have that ethereal folksy quality to their sound but there is real rhythmic power underpinning it all. Songs like "Oban" and "Tomorrow Man" acquire a cheeky charm in the live environment too whilst the recorded versions seem altogether more serious. With quality songs, top class musicianship and a touch of that peculiarly British eccentricity, this band's music is truly to be savoured. Miss them at your peril. / The Oran Social: "Dancing freely in REM's folk-rock skirts, Keenan proves an impressive tunesmith with such tracks as 13 and Appointments proving pleasingly reminiscent of US alt-rock guru Elliot Smith." Metro. / Conor Mason: "Long Time Gone" has that neat, super smooth countrified Eagles sound. "Luck" had a sweet quirkiness that bares favourable comparison to the music of Glasgow's soon to be legendary Metro-gnomes. The album's killer track, however, is the laidback and cool but at the same time almost funky "Falling out of Touch". It is truly a song so good that it should be on vinyl and "Before You Return" sits especially well next to it. You are probably getting the picture now. Conor Mason is giving us a quality collection of slightly offbeat but very commercial songs that cunningly worm their way into your affections.

is this music? - THE PHANTOM BAND / PAUL VICKERS AND THE LEG / INTERVALS
The Phantom Band: "this isn't a band that's going to be easily pigeon holed...The A-side, 'Throwing Bones' is brilliant, whilst the B-side is an instrumental which takes us back towards post-rock territory."Manic Pop Thrills "a pulsating Krautrocker of a tune, like Stereolab dosed up on ketamine and lemsip"Is This Music / Paul Vickers and The Leg are a pretty terrifying band. Dressed in deformed panda gimp suits, you wouldn't leave them alone with your kids or let them let them look after your pets. 'The Ballad of Bess Houdini' is a banjo-plucking country-inspired ditty about the widow of the late magician's attempts to contact him after his death through séance. Apparently. Despite being a foot-stomping barn-stormer of a single, the vocals do (fittingly) sound like a man possessed. Fun, oddball and unique but really, really scary. / Intervals - Though their influences are clear, from Low to Mogwai to Dirty Three to Explosions in the Sky, their expansive sound is more than the sum of its parts.

THE ECHO SESSION / THE PEOPLE / RAY SUMMERS BAND / KYLE CUTHBERTS
The Echo Session: borrow from a wealth of British music past but they have truly carved their own sound. They do not echo so much as boom out, bringing a mod sound to an uneducated 21st century audience who probably think British music began with the Libertines. / The People formed in the summer of 2002 and immediately set about recording the now famous lost untitled debut. Songs such as Zion Gate formed the basis of what was to become their sound. Their second self titled mini-album was released by Hijacked records in 2004. Recorded as live as possible over several days new textures were developed and songs such as I'll Promise You Better displayed a songwriting craft that was both complcated yet accessable. By the time of the recording of their latest album, Desire, The Devil and the Ghost it had become clear that new influences were starting to appear in their sound. A concept album of sorts which delves into the human condition and addresses such issues as love, sex, unfaithfullness and salvation. The recording was jinxed throughout resulting in the loss of a band member, spiralling costs, dropped songs and the breakdown of personal relationships. In the face of such adversity the backbone of the band remained focused and completed the sessions resulting in a tense yet rewarding work. The band are currently writing a new double album penciled in for an end of year release. New songs such as 3:46, Until I leave on the evening stage, Henry O', Favorite son and The Dance hint at a revival of the old protest songs of the 30's and 40's. The story of The People is one that is tainted with death, heartache, debt and missed opportunities, however these handicaps have become the fuel that powers their engine New album "Desire, The Devil and The Ghost" is out now on Hijacked Records.

VISCERAL DEITY / ACHREN (pictured) / CYANID / STABWOUND (pictured)
Visceral Deity: "Blood Halo opens the demo with a touch of synth, followed by total destruction! It's a slap in the face! The riffs are destructive and David successfully mixes a very guttural death metal vocal with screams from beyond the grave. The rage and nastiness of his singing give their music an apocalyptic atmosphere. But he's not the only one to make an impression. The other musicians deserve equal credit for their excellent mastery of death metal. Among them we should mention Oli, whose drumming is skilful and fast, and above all Neil, whose guitar solos can't fail to move you (War in Babylon). Simultaneously melodic and intoxicating, the solos are magnificently executed and draw the listener into a world where chaos and destruction reign." / Achren: "Brutally technical death/black/thrash with the shredding and violence turned up to 10... a fearsome live act" - Metal Hammer....Evil pagan black thrash mixing raw, abrasive black metal vocals, bludgeoning thrash riffs & flying Slayer-esque solos. Achren have cemented their position as one of the UK's most aggressive, uncompromising & ferocious metal bands!

Blue Panda: THE PARKERS / MATADORS (pictured) / LITTLE FIRE / AUDIODELUXE
It would seem The Parkers came up with a corker of a chorus for a song – the kind The View or The Libertines would be ever so proud of – but couldn't quite figure out what to do about lyrics. The result: "Alleyalleyalleyannieohohoh alleyalleyannieohohohohohohohohohhhweeohweeohweeoh" Silly? Yes. Effective? As effective as "Do dododo dododo dodododododo do" was for The Fratellis. And the flipside Danny The Operator is every bit as good, starting delicate and turning into the kind of jaunty-but-sweet indie anthem you'd expect from The Maccabees. Is this music? / Audiodeluxe: a duet project in the Indie/Trip-Hop/Pop genres with a real something to discover. I do love the soothing gentle plod, and creamy quality these two have put together.
