The Wendy House presents: THE STATE BROADCASTERS (pictured) / FINNISTON (pictured) / THE METRO-GNOMES (pictured)
This winter season The Wendy House presents….. The State Broadcasters: a glorious mix of americana and folk pop wonder from Glasgow's most polite and pretty band. With unique lyrics and swoonsome arrangements we urge you to come and marvel at the delights of a band that can squeeze harp, cello, trombone, piano, banjo and glorious harmonies into 4 minutes of magical song. / Finniston : 'it's the cavalcade, tumble down keyboards, squeezebox wooze and subtly sharp guitaring stitched to those typically scottish wall to wall sweet n sour vocal sheets that hook you. this is material that grabs you like an over-insistent shiva...seducing, firing you up and drawing you into the whirl or the eddy of their pool. finniston are too good for me, but you'll cope, love cherish and all that, so do that.' www.unpeeled.co.uk / The Metro-Gnomes - The Metro-gnomes are one part Mark Rafferty, one part Andrea Tomlinson. Together they make music in a kitchen on the top floor of a tenement flat in Glasgow. They prefer things simple, using only a mixture of voice, moothie and guitar...with the occasional dash and/or splash of piano, ukulele, accordion, zither and kazoo. They have just released their first EP entitled 'i have a photograph' with Glasgow-based indie label Lucky Number Nine and it's great! Doors 8.30pm, £3.00 entry.

Nuts and Seeds: DANANANANAKROYD (pictured) / CHARLOTTEFIELD / SPY Vs SPY / JER / STEVIE & SHANE
Dananananaykroyd - Through the wreckage of complete structural dereliction, Glasgow punk collective Dananananaykroyd fashion an urgent, glorious mess of a track. 'Some Dresses' is a little difficult to pin down in that it's fundamentally punk sounding but with uncharacteristically clean multi-channel production values. Yet it's not particularly mainstream and in actual fact it could well be two songs cobbled together. After a shambling breakdown midway through they rebuild with increased precision, climbing and surging toward the expected blaze of glory. But they ignore the rulebook and the final section tails off in to nothing more than an extended fadeout. After this the b-side ('Genuine lbs') sounds a little unadventurous, retreating as it does to safer ground. Theyremind me of fellow unpronounceable Scots Urusei Yatsura as both appropriate the experimental rambling forever associated with Sonic Youth. Dananananaykroyd are not your typical art-rock band however and their sound is better classified alongside recent US hardcore idols Braid and Hot Water Music. Their opening line suggests they are confident of making a similar impact: "Yeah! Can you smell it in the air? There is something brilliant approaching." Smells like victory. / Charlottefield: A 4 piece from Brighton, Charlottefield have been laying on the blood raw and primitive ugly post-hardcore since 2001, a sound that sits somewhere between Televison, early Hood and Fugazi - abrasive and loud one minute, melodic and subtle the next. They have tonnes of releases for the like of FatCat, Unlabel, NoiseStar and Jonson Family. / Spy vs Spy: Legendary 90's 'emo'/post hardcore, reunion tour. I don't think there is a doubt in anyone's mind that this is going to be incredible. Discography double CD out now on Gravity DIP records.

ROOM TO LET / BRONTO SKYLIFT (pictured) / SOVIET
"Room to Let are an exciting 3-piece band that is wowing the fantastic Glasgow scene. Started only a year ago, the band has honed a sound that sounds like The Cure's emotive atmospherics soaring over a full throttle dance-punk backbeat. Eschewing the Glasgow zeitgeist, they have crafted an original view of the drunks, pulsing nightlife & thrilling musical culture of the city. Influenced by the sharp angles of Fugazi and the funk-punk of Gang of Four, their music has already won them influential fans. They played a gig to over two hundred people at the ABC2; hooked up with Localism to play packed gigs all over the city and stormed the bill at independent heroes 'Say Dirty Records'' Xmas party to over 400 fans. Their fans are already die-hard, shouting songs like 'Don't be Scared of Who You Are,' 'Kill the Lights' and 'Second Hand Jazz Mags' back at them and dancing like its Saturday night every time they play. Imagine Bloc Party's energy with the tempo changes of Biffy Clyro. Think power, passion, wit, style and intelligence." / Bronto Skylift: a rapid-fire torrent of thrash-punk. Whilst priding themselves on making a racket, they are nonetheless controlled. / Soviet would like to take this time to apologise for not being shitty, mediocre Glaswegian death metal. While we understand that sounding like every other shitty Glaswegian death metal band, and having a spikier-than-thou logo on an album cover of animal innards and tomato ketchup, and a singer that essentially burps alot down the microphone, is obviously an admirable task, we thought we might try something original

SERVANT / GRAND VOLUME (pictured) / THINK:FIRE (pictured)
Servant: feedback from recent gigs has featured reference to bands such as Editors, The Doves, Idlewild, Queens of the Stoneage & many more. Servant have a powerful and varied sound, ranging from soft & infectious melodies, through to the occasional instrumental soundscape & full tilt crashing post/rock anthems to be. Most notably perhaps is the fact that Servant do not hide their Scottish accent away, and the voice of front man Gav Galloway is completely infectious. Add guitar parts that complement each other, song writing contribution from all members, the solid bass lines of Brian Hamilton, the creative perfectionism of Chris Stanfield on guitar and the inventive and colourful drumming of Ally Burton and you really are on to a band that has everything it needs and more. Servant are set for a year of hard gigging in the UK and aim to record an EP with Lanarkshire knob twiddling mastermind, Andy Miller (Mogwai, Scout Niblett, Sons & Daughters, My Latest Novel, Delgados, De Rosa, Desert Hearts etc) at the tasty new Chem 19 Recording Studio. / Grand Volume are a unique proposition in the current musical climate, capable of knocking out two minute punk rock gems with consumate ease but equally comfortable venturing into more sophisticated prog-inspired territory. Of their peers only the Mars Volta and Queens of the Stone Age can match them for combining such musical dexterity with fiercely passionate intensity. "An awesome racket. The missing link between classic stadium bombast and post-hardcore death noise" Dan Martin, NME / Think:Fire: Following 18 months of relentless gigging around the UK, which has seen the band share stages with heavyweights such as Funeral for a Friend, Say Anything, Fightstar, New Found Glory and The Used, think:Fire are set to release their debut EP 'Swings and Roundabouts' in January. Produced by Romesh Dodangoda, known for his work with the likes of Funeral for a Friend, Kids in Glass Houses and Dopamine. You'll find the epic soundscapes, soaring riffs and beautiful melodies.

BLACK SUN (pictured) / CO-EXIST (pictured)
Tonight it's splendid voicebox & amp shred noisery. You have the twenty Death cigs and dehydration croak of Black Sun, who quern out migraine thunder drummage and funereal chords the size and weight of granite headstones for gargantuan beasts in the HP Lovecraft mode. Co-Exist have been called Scotland's 'finest grind caked metal band' (Terrorizer magazine). I prefer their own description, 'a tank on speed', although it would have to be a tank that had literally no other interests at all in life except for necking meth and going about blowing shit up. Protect & Survive Presents: RAGS & FEATHERS / THE MOTH & THE MIRROR (pictured) / GASGIANT
Its all about the "last 2007 shows" for this one, both Tom Snowball's Rags & Feathers and former Arab Strap/Boy Who Trapped the Sun cellist Stacey Seivright's Moth & The Mirror will be saying a musical cheerio to 2007 tonight. Rags & Feathers promise much sweet vocal harmony/multi-instrumental folky goodness, recently described by a spectator as "dead folk" as opposed to "deep-folk" or "post-folk". I want to stress that by "dead" i mean "very very" as opposed to "post-moribund", i assure you this "dead-folky" outfit are very much alive. The Moth and The Mirror are a curious mish mash of different bits(not like a zombie though, what is it with this night and death metaphors?) - notably one of the most talented glockenspiel player's you'll ever hear, the occasional distorted post rock crescendo, delicately sung vocals over the top. Its a curious mish mash of different bits that works gloriously well however - thats why they're playing (i would have thought that was implicit). Edinburghs Gasgiant are opening tonight, i dont mean like calor gas, they are somehting much bigger, like oxygen. Some lovely delayed guitars, some really serene noises too, but underpinned with a tight rhythm section and intense swelling crescendos (i like the word crescendo - its definately not moribund). A must for all post rock junkies. Doors 8.30pm - £4 entry

Moonshaker: TOUCHTONE / KUNG FU / +1
Kung Fu started when Kenny McLaughlin recovered from being knocked down by a car. It had always been his dream to be a singer in a rock band. After learning to read and write again he was not going to pass up his second chance of life. He recruited school friend Nicholas Davis as lead guitarist. The band had difficulties getting the right bass player and drummer but eventually found Allan Little on bass and Brendon McGill on drums. Together the band believe they are producing some of the most innovative and original rock music out there today. Kung Fu has been a settled band for just over 2 years now and they are starting to make a lot of progress. Support slots in King Tuts with 'The Enemy','Figure 5' and 'Goose', has seen the boys starting to fill their potential. During these gigs the boys have got a great response and are starting to develop a big following. Doors 9pm

JIMI CULLEN / + GUESTS
Jimi Cullen is a solo artist from Gorey, a small town in the South East of Ireland, a town full of the same small mindedness that has been the inspiration for many of his songs like "Change your Life" and "Small minded people living in small towns". He has been writing and performing for about two years now and has already left a definite mark on the Irish music scene. He has already played well over 250 gigs across Ireland and has supported the likes of Paddy Casey, The Revs, Roesy and Aslan. His debut e.p. "Anthems for the doomed youth pt.1" was released to good acclaim last year and has since sold over 600 copies. He has just finished work on his debut album "When the last leaf falls" whitch is to be released in March 07'. Jimi's music can best be described as a mix between Folk, Grunge, Blues and Rock mixed with a healthy dose of originality. His lyrics are often quite politically and socially aware with songs about War, Poverty, Injustice and the Homeless, but often humouress too with songs like "Hangover Blues" and "Talking Religion Blues" and of course some songs are simply of love's won and love's lost. These days Jimi spends most of his time on the road travelling from town to town spreading the good word, playing wherever there's an audience. Doors 9pm

Nuts and Seeds: JOHN MAUS (panda bear/ariel pink) / GOWNS / HELD BY HANDS (pictured) / & 1 more tba
John Maus: 'Songs' is Maus' debut, his life work, which was written and recorded at home over the last five years. It's a twisted baroque pop record that brings to mind early 80's hits and coming-of-age movie soundtracks. Almost entirely electronic, the Maus sound is created from synthesisers, drum machine, bass and his remarkable vocals, which are pitched somewhere between Ian Curtis, Calvin Johnson and David Bowie. / Gowns: have been detuning guitars, rewiring samplers, drowning pianos and mainlining a muse of their own design to come up with an album as distraught as it is powerfully beautiful. Without ever committing to any real sense of formal song structure, they nevertheless unleash 42 minutes of compulsive melodic listening that not only wants you close, but contaminated in the process... a devastating performance that crushes me every time I hear it... recapturing the rock tradition of salvation through cathartic expression... Gowns are the sound of the eternal discord. / Held By Hands is the work of singer and multi-instrumentalist Mathew Johnson, assisted by Angharad Cooper, Stephen Roe and Tony Sentinella ... based in Leeds, Yorkshire, Held By Hands play Lo-Fi, vocal lead and layered popular music inspired influenced by the likes of Sufjan Stevens, the Microphones, Neutral Milk Hotel and Grizzly Bear... and played with guitars, keyboards, organs, mandolins, ukuleles, glockenspiels, violins and percussion to create their multi-faceted sound. Primarily a 5 piece, they expand on this number with more members to enhance their music in the live setting. Doors 8.30pm

54 Promotions: THE HUMBLE HOAX (pictured) / THE FEBRUARY SOLUTION (pictured) / DEPARTURES / FOR YOUR SINS
The Humble Hoax: These five guys from Sheffield are forever gigging all over the place with quite an impressive following. With a truck-load of talent and a good few skips of energy to go with it, it's not hard to see why. Their music is part metal, part screamo, with everything else in between, and if you're into the likes of Alexisonfire, Enter Shikari or Penknifelovelife you'll probably like it. / The February Solution: are a strange but unique band. Welding the most brutal metal and hardcore with a melodic and even melancholic sensibility too often lacking. Formidable as a live act, they manage to tear the stage apart as expected, while at the same time reaching for something beyond the narrow confines of their chosen genre. Bringing in such diverse influences as Textures, Mogwai and The Acacia Strain, the Febs are typical of the new attitude in the extreme end of metal, where the false walls that once existed between musicians are being torn down and a whole new sound is emerging. Creating music that is neither one thing or another, but something else entirely. Hailing from various suburban Ayrshire and Lanarkshire towns, The February Solution set upon their journey in November 2002 after meeting at college. Since then they have shared the stage with Hopesfall, Eden Maine, Khoma, Aconite thrill, The Hurt Process, Textures, All Shall Perish and The Abominable Iron Sloth. A successful tour of the UK in May 2006 was sponsored by UK Metal Underground, who had earlier made them Band of the week in February 06. Doors 8.30pm - £4

is this music? - FINDO GASK (pictured) / SAN SEBASTIAN (pictured) / OVER THE WALL (pictured)
San Sebastian: provided a huge ethereal crescendo, with a sound that felt like it was expanding to fill the tent. the crowd that remained spurned the chance to watch arctic monkeys on the main stage and were treated to a very special set which was high on atmospherics and sheer beauty. san sebastian play sweeping widescreen rock - music at its most ambitious and heartwarming. they showed that sometimes it's better to simply let the music do the talking and ended the first night in the t break tent on an uplifting note. / Over the Wall: "With strong accents just the right side of endearing, you certainly can't confuse over the wall with any of the other t break bands. Quirky indie with subtle dance and folk influences and a healthy dose of originality, they deserve to get through on the strength of the irresistable 'keyboard heaven' alone." So thats a good one. Next is the t break review of the showcase night itself: "Over The Wall were greeted with ravenous applause from a crowd intrigued by the multitude of instruments belonging to Ben Hillman and Gav Prentice. Their trumpet fused opening song, which could have come straight out of Disney's 'Aladdin', was followed by spectacular mellow electronica, with an injection of disco in the form of the wonderfully catchy Keyboard Heaven. Successfully overcoming minor technical difficulties, they end unplanned on a high, their performance marred only by the limited pre-programmed drums."

Another power trio, but slightly weirder, Rollor slap out of the speakers with Stranglers bass, chunkerter-chunk guitar prongs, deranged harmonica a la Beefheart & dense titles like 'Walking Parade Of Curiosity'.
