Nuts and Seeds: HUG PARTY (pictured) / FOX GUT DAATA
Hug Party are a rapping and hugging duo comprising of Digicore and Rosey Pony. Set to take the world by storm, their beginings were humble. Hug Party were formed in the central queenland town of Rockhampton. After a trip to the local pawn shop the pair aquired a keyboard and set off into the australian outback powering their rap pop phenomenon with the van's cigarette lighter. Themes for Hug Party songs include; John Howard being an idiot, bad work place reforms, graffitti and not partying enough. A friend of a friend who they met once in the pub Ian came to their aid, recording their first E.P. '10574 Hugs from Home' and unleashing them on the world. / "Fox gut daata = sheer rambunction in a distorted electro wrapper....like having a load of eels invade yr body and brain and socks" - wow!

LAS TUESDAY / KRISS FOSTER / THE DREAMT
Las Tuesday - "The lively lads of Las-Tuesday have been together for just over 8 months and have been steadily building a loyal fanbase, mainly by word of mouth. The name came from constant in-joke references to how good things were at "last tuesday's" rehearsal. Band members: Allan Gilchrist (Vocals/Guitar/Banter) Colin Low (Guitar/Vocals/Height) Jon Shaw (Bass/Vocals/Cheek) Lee Waugh (Drums/Lunacy/Sex Appeal) We all have various musical influences which we draw from to make every song different from the previous ones. There's a bit of blues here, a bit of rock and funk there, and lots of other stuff all flowing through our music. We just want to be a strong live band, and make music that moves people. We hope the band's music stands the test of time over the long haul. We would be happy to leave something behind after we're all gone, you know like a cd in someone's music collection." "Kriss Foster- he's dead good" - NME "bizarrely brilliant" -BBC "An Ivor Cutler for the i-pod generation" -Lancaster Guardian "it's hard not to love Kriss. In fact, if the world was fair there'd be a Kriss Foster in every home lurking around a corner waiting to make your day a little stranger"-i concur....fantastically whimsical....check him out! / The Dreamt - "The Smiths having a bar room punch up with Queens of the Stone Age, whilst Franz Ferdinand and Radiohead look on with glee and a resurrected Johnny Thunders and Ian Curtis get it on in the corner... (ooh er, missus)" personally, i'd add a splash of mark e. smithypops in there too.

ROY & THE DEVIL'S MOTORCYCLE (Switzerland) / + DJ'S
"Since 1991, Roy and the Devil's Motorcycle have been getting lost in the music. Saturated in blues, garage and psychedelia, they've honed a focused, raw and hypnotic sound from blissed out blues to raging garage/ psychedelia. But it all sounds like them: immediate, at their own pace and with a slightly (verging on truly) disturbing warpedness. It's worth mentioning also that the three guitarist brothers grew up in a swiss mountain village. Soon after moving to a larger town with a 'rock club', where they first saw Spacemen 3 and some other sonic pioneers of the time, they got immersed in the energy of garage punk and primal rock and roll, and later on, into the depth of blues. Throw in a trash-experimental nature (substance and otherwise), the independence of their own studio and production techniques with years of playing together and not giving a fuck what anyone else is doing muscially, and this is truly some original shit."

Protect and Survive: ISNAJ DUI / THE IMPOSSIBLE FLOWER / ANDREA MARINI
Since the debut release in March 2005, Isnaj Dui (real name Katie English) has been busy on the live circuit, provoking much interest from fellow experimental electronica artists for her unique blend of acoustic instruments and electronically manipulated effects. With numerous appearances at various electronica nights alongside many sessions on Resonance 104.4fm, Isnaj Dui has built up a strong following. English's recorded work has also received much critical acclaim from various reviewers including Wire magazine and White Line. As a classically trained flautist, Katie uses concert and bass flutes alongside an effects and looping device as well as home made instruments including the electrodulcimer, a stringed instrument devised by Katie herself to create a unique and versatile sound. Through studies in electroacoustic music, alternative tunings and Indonesian Gamelan as well as her classical work, Katie has fused together many styles to create a unique sound, infusing tranquil melodies with a dark edge. Keith Moline of Wire writes of 2007s 'Patterns In Rocks' '...English manages to take the [flute] into darker realms while maintaining a lovely, sleepy languor. Numerous live performances have allowed Isnaj Dui to experiment with various ways of composition and improvisation. Building loops to create lush, dense textures that weave in and out of eachother has provided a recogniseable sound. The overall recording process is very much designed to keep the feeling of a live performance, multitracked instruments recorded in one take wherever possible to create a feeling of spontanaeity. The past two releases have seen Isnaj Dui using only live sampling of acoustic instruments. / The Impossible Flower was created by Andrew Daly back in 2001. It was originally a solo project but he became good friends with various people such as Ben Mellor, Paul Barran, Petra Saxby, Jeremy Burns & Gareth Dickson. Appreciating each others sound they embarked on performing improvised movements using guitars, zoom samplers and a Tape echo. Various recordings were made mainly in Tchai Ovna Tea Rooms which they had a residency there once a month. The recordings range from very minimal dark places to the serene and beautiful. We hope you enjoy the sound of the impossible flower.

Moonshaker Promotions: THE GO-HAWKS / WULL THE THIEF
"Strike It Reverse It" opens this demo from Greenock quartet The Go-Hawks, and it proves to be an extremely impressive start with an infectious mix of Arctic Monkeys-esque instrumentation combined with the ear for a pop melody of the likes of Klaxons. The result is an immensely memorable song which is likely to remain lodged firmly in your brain for days on end, and it seems to be the song with the highest potential ability to garner new fans for the band. The other two tracks on the demo take more of a straightforward indie/rock approach reminiscent in places of The Pigeon Detectives, with "Wait In Line" and "Just Like Videodrome" both proving to be memorable affairs. ... the quality of "Strike It Reverse It" in particular should ensure that The Go-Hawks continue to build on their following in their native Scotland and beyond. is this music? - SONNY MARVELLO (pictured) / DAS CONTRAS (pictured) / WOODENBOX
"The last act of the night, Sonny Marvello, takes to the stage. They are a curious looking bunch. Some look like they have come from a wedding, some from a funeral and some from a Madness convention. It takes only a few moments to realise that we are in the presence of a showman. Lead vocalist Sonny Marvello commands the stage in a bright red bowler hat. He truly has the swagger of Jagger. He struts. He sings his heart out. He can even dance! We are also pleased to observe a real drummer. Cool as a cucumber, the rhythmic royalty behind the drum kit even dons his sunglasses from time to time and puts his feet up between songs. Compelling and confident live performers, this band have the potential for greatness. They have the talent. They have the songs. They have the style. Mark our words; Sonny Marvello will dominate the pop world." / Das Contras: " A refreshing change to guitar bands, their maturity and obviously studied dedication to their craft created layers of warmth of sometimes up beat jazz and reggae to despairing sadness. Think Ruben Wilson, gypsy violins, Miles Davies, filterless French cigarettes, The Bosstones, bull fighting and Ray Manzarek and you'll probably wonder what the hell I'm talking about. "Das Contras are a band of musicians from Fife in Scotland playing Folk-Funk-Jazz-Punk or something. Elegant and unusual Das Contras display venerable creative ability in their music, with distinctive composition and craftsmanship. They are rare carpenters with a distinct musical vision and spirit, at once eclectic and refined, brisling with improvised energy, a fusion of classical, jazz, reggae influences. Das Contras are a rarity and a prize. Give these guys a listen, you won't be disappointed. " - Scotcampus

SOUND EROTICA / DAMOCLES / WHERE'S FRENCHIE / REACHING REGAL
Damocles was formed in 2006 at North Glasgow College, Springburn. It first started off with two guitarists and a bassist who simply adored writing songs and creating music. Soon enough, a drummer was involved and so making the band a 4-piece. Unfortunately, they did manage to get a singer, but he decided to leave the band causing Damocles to hit a rough patch. Now, they have gained a talented new singer who might just be the next Bruce Dickinson, and so they go on to be stronger than ever!

KUNT AND THE GANG (pictured) / THE PLIMPTONS (pictured)
A Brief History of Kunt - Back in the 90's two friends, fed up with the production line pop of Take That and Boyzone, decided to form a band. So Kunt (who had cut his teeth with Essex rude boys Serious Problem) and his cousin Andy Kunt (formerly of seminal punk band The Rape Babies) formed Pubic Cube. Their slightly risque take on pop music didn't help in getting any gigs so they took to playing talent contests, leaving a trail of offended tone-deaf karaoke singers, crap amateur magicians and piss-poor local comedians in their wake. Pubic Cube disbanded in 1996 after an audience of 250 people walked out of Basildon's Towngate Theatre during the band's rendition of the Serious Problem standard 'Take That are Cunts'. Kunt and Andy Kunt decided to regroup in 2003 under the moniker Kunt and the Gang. Shortly after, Kunt was rushed to hospital with agonising stomach pains and was found to have a parasitic twin who had been living inside him since birth. The parasitic twin was removed and came out covered in blood, shit and sweetcorn. Unfortunately it survived and was christened 'Little Kunt'. Little Kunt was full of resentment about being stuck up Kunt's colon for 30 years and so set about a smear campaign to turn best buds Kunt and Andy Kunt against each other. Andy Kunt could see what was happening and quit to move to the Kuntryside. Kunt soldiered on with Little Kunt taking over Andy Kunt's BV's and the duo were invited to play their first gig at their spiritual home, Basildon's Castlemayne pub, supporting Retail Outlet in December 2003. It was a residency at the same pub in 2004 that saw a flurry of A+R interest which led to them releasing their debut album 'I have a little wank and I have a little cry' in 2005 on indie label Disco Minge Records. / The Plimptons - "...like Half-Man Half-Biscuit do Spinal Tap...more ideas in one song than Oasis had in their entire career.- Rick Fulton I never thought I'd ever be able to say this, but they [The Cuts] make The Plimptons look like Muse. Except their lyrics are funnier. - 'Craig the wank' ...like The Baron Knights on tartrazine..." - Tony Kiernan, Is This Music?

Saturday 24
Breakout Scotland: THE MISS'S / DORIAN / ANNA MELDRUM / LITTLE FIRE
The Miss's take to the stage. Hmm… interesting. There are three of them - later introduced as Audrey, Michelle and Jenny - so there is a clear and present danger of harmonies. Now, harmonies are difficult things. Most people assume that they are just a couple of people singing at the same time. Not the case at all. The voices have to intertwine to create something greater than the sum of its parts. Michelle has a big voice. When she cranks it up, it would easily fill a football stadium. "Mr Muscle" (from their new EP) charms you before Michelle's voice pushes it out through the wall into the street. Jenny's voice, in contrast, is soft and sweet like an angel's kiss. Add in Audrey's tasteful support on guitar and harmony and the end result is truly convincing. Harmonies dot com, if you like. Their songs steer well way from the navel gazing and indeed show a proper understanding of melody and dynamics with "Don't Walk Away" standing out. Mind you they don't take themselves too seriously as they even manage to throw in an amusing Christmas song called "Mrs Claus" that could have formed part of the repertoire of a sixties' girl group. If this were an auction, Bluesbunny would be the highest bidder. Sold!

Volcanic tongue: SCORCES / RICHARD YOUNGS / NACKT INSECTEN (pictured)
Scorces is the duo of Christina Carter (guitar, vocals) and Heather Leigh Murray (pedal steel guitar, vocals), long-time friends and collaborators since their debut CD in 1996. Their music is powerful and spellbinding, drawing the listener into their unique emotional and personal realms. Christina and Heather work from their long groundbreaking careers as solo artists and group musicians to create fully improvised music that can magically take song form. They can easily move between minimalist beauty imbued with dream logic as heard on their upcoming double LP on Not Not Fun, 'I Turn Into You', to full-on heavy psychedelic rock as seen on their recent live dates supporting Thurston Moore in October 2007. Besides their Not Not Fun release they also have upcoming releases on Thurston Moore's Ecstatic Peace label and Heather Leigh Murray's own Volcanic Tongue label. This will be Scorces first full-length tour since 2003 when they played the now legendary Brattleboro Free-Folk Fest curated by Matt Valentine in a quartet with Paul Flaherty and Chris Corsano. Scorces were also featured in the original New Weird America article published in The Wire magazine, the infamous article that birthed the term "free-folk" and highlighted Scorces and their peers MV&EE, Sunburned Hand Of The Man, Dredd Foole, Chris Corsano, Paul Flaherty and Six Organs of Admittance. - "Between them, Carter and Murray have pioneered a striking, instinctive approach to their respective instruments, combining the gospel blues of Blind Willie Johnson with repeating, percussive patterns, echoes of the sanctified dolceola music of Washington Phillips and the kind of lacerating, untutored slide work that Lydia Lunch used on early Teenage Jesus & The Jerks tracks. In the process they've exploded the clichéd notion of what constitutes a feminine energy, stripping out terms like 'ethereal' and moving into territories that are uniquely heavy, both sonically and emotionally." BRIGANTIES / JACK SUMMER / THE KAROVAS / ILLNESS
The Briganties are from Berwick-upon-Tweed, famous for a tug of war between Scotland and England over ownership rights, and even the people of the town themselves can't decide what side of the border they'd rather lay their hat. Both nations will be trying to claim the Briganties as members of their flock, because they tick all the right boxes for being a talented, mainstream outfit.Liam Smiths' vocals emanate from that late 80's period when the Stone Roses where fresh, inventive, and influential, and their hit 'The hardest thing in the world' and its anthemic rationale forms the basis for the title track. Harbouring a slick indie vibe, they have a certain baggy charm that will resonate through the masses. Whilst it does tend sound manufactured, almost relayed towards a gig singalong audience, it does tend to stand up better to several listens than other efforts of a similar nature. There is definitely a gap in the market for new, British, iconic band, and whilst the Briganties are light years away from infamy, they have enough in their locker to build themselves a following.

Friday 30
REVERBAPHON / + GUESTS
Reverbaphon's third album for Benbecula is drawn from recordings made between 2004 and 2006, with more of the concise and crafted pieces that made his first two albums notable. Working alone, Paul Smith has made it his mission to create serious music in an unseious way. If something can make a sound he will record it: this is the unserious part. There are guitars, E-bow, drum machine samples, swanny whistles, melodica, and keyboard. The sounds are then layered and woven into aural tapestries, this being the serious bit. There's a clockwork music box charm to 'Mbiraphon'. The existential sheriff is expansive and elegiac with a languorous drift of chiming guitar arpeggios before it breaks into scuttling, jazzy percussion. The attention to detail in these raises them above the mundane.
